This eAssist Helpful News and Billing Tip will discuss code D7880 Occlusal Orthotic Device.

This code presently includes splints provided for temporomandibular joint dysfunction treatment.  This may consist of several visits for the treatment.

Please do not use this code when billing for a tooth whitening tray( D9972) or an Occlusal Guard(D9940)

The D7880 is to treat TMJ disorders and the Occlusal Guard (D9940) is only to minimize the effects of bruxism (grinding) and other occlusal factors.

If you are struggling with dental coding consider using a coding manual such as Practice Booster’s Dental Coding with Confidence or, better yet, partner with eAssist for your dental billing needs. Our Success Consultants are CDT code experts and will ensure your claims are always billed correctly. To learn more, schedule a consultation here.
