It was with great sadness that we received the message that Dr. Charles Blair had lost his battle with a prolonged health crisis and had passed away on November 6th, 2023.
An energetic and dedicated leader to the end, his legacy of knowledge of dental coding, fee analysis, and strategic planning for practice success has helped thousands of dentists and their teams over several decades. Practice Booster, founded by Dr. Blair in 2008 and now an eAssist Publishing Company, continues to ensure compassionate patient care while fostering economic success for all dentists. Dr. Blair generously trained and mentored his team to ensure that his wealth of knowledge was passed on and preserved. Carrying on an honored tradition, they will diligently uphold his highest standards and keep his vision alive.
Dr. Blairs’s well-known guides and manuals, including Dental Coding with Confidence, Dental Administration with Confidence, Medical Dental Cross Coding with Confidence, Dental Documentation with Confidence, and Insurance Solutions Newsletter, will continue to help the dental community.

As a dental writer and speaker on practice management and CDT coding, I knew there were few in the industry who could help with questions on coding and billing insurance companies like Dr. Blair. He attended the ADA Code Maintenance Committee meeting yearly and had inside knowledge of the trends coming to dentistry. The Insurance Solutions Newsletter has always been one of my tools for billing success. I was fortunate to attend some of Dr. Blair’s speaking engagements, and my favorite was his “stay out of jail” YouTube talk about avoiding fraudulent billing practices and so much more.
I recently had the honor of working with Dr. Blair on the Insurance Solutions Newsletter. I was impressed by his extensive knowledge of dentistry’s clinical and business sides and how they must seamlessly combine to create a profitable practice.
They say a great teacher has the following attributes:
- Passion for sharing knowledge
- Expertise in their subject area
- Tireless patience to teach
- Boundless communication skills
- Positive attitude and enthusiasm
Dr. Blair embodied these traits, and I am blessed to have had him as a mentor.
